How Do You Know??

So, just how do you know? Know, without a doubt, you have the flu. (This one I have authority to answer....) You have the flu if you have one, two or ALL of the following symptoms. And if you have them for more than five days, you have it bad.

**body-wrecking chills followed by drenching sweats - this pattern repeats itselfs every hour or so
**muscle aches so severe that lifting your head to rollover in bed is literally painful
**utter weakness and inability to wake up for days at a time
**feeling of complete misery

How do you know that your life really stinks?? When you are able to drag out of bed in order to beg your doctor for relief and she actually prescribes a flu medicine - to which you have a severe allergic reaction! Really now. The symptoms for the reaction are almost as pitiful as the above listed symptoms.

How do you know when you are really so far behind it might be impossible to catch up at this point? Lets see.
**you might not even have a tree up yet
**you have not baked a crumb, addressed one card, or yet wrapped one gift
**oh please, I cannot make myself go on!

How do you know what to let go?? and what has to happen in order for Christmas to feel right? Now, that really is the question. When I have that figured out, I will be sure to let you know. But it is certain that something will have to give. Because, oh yes, I have one more question.

How do you know that you just aren't as young as you used to be (there are several answers here) but this week - it is taking so incredibly long to "bounce back" from being ill, I'm beginning to forget what "normal" even feels like and I know FOR SURE this old gray mare ain't what she used to be!!

  2. I am so sorry that you have been so under the weather. I have worried about you since you have been away from blogland for a while. Get a small tree that will take 10 minutes to decorate and put out only decorations that have very special meanings to your family. Don't worry about the yummies (no one will starve, I promise), take your favorite picture (s) run or walk down to Sams Club and have them make your pics into cards (they will even give you the envelopes and then enjoy the rest of your holiday with your family. I hope you continue to feel better. I really have missed you lately!

  3. Oh Jennifer, I'm so sorry you haven't been bitten by this nasty bug. I had it a few weeks ago and could do nothing.
Don't worry about things not done because you can't change them right now. Concentrate on getting better.
    Praying for you!

  5. I'm so sorry you are so sick and running behind--I fully understand both things right now. Christmas cards can wait if they must, and who says you must bake Christmas goodies--surprise everyone at Valentine's if you have to. The main thing is to take care of you, cause if mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy ;-)

  6. So sorry to hear you are ill. I was wondering because you did not blog for so long. Please take care of yourself - get plenty of rest, drink lots of liquids - Christmas will take place whether you are ready or not. Just lay back and take your time to recover. Next year will be here before you know it.

  7. Oh Jen! That sounds absolutely HORRIBLE! AWFUL! Absolutely DREADFUL! I seriously shuddered when I read all your symptoms...totally shuddered! Yuck! Ugh! Blah! Words can't even describe how awful it just HEARS and I didn't even go through it so can't imagine how awful it must FEEL.

I felt so bad for you when I talked to Dad last week. I seriously wonder how on earth you got that? From church maybe? Who on earth was walking around carrying THAT nasty bug?

I was hesitant to get the flu shot this year but went ahead and did it anyways since I'm prego. I don't usually get it though but after reading about what you had, I seriously think I might go and get it every year just to prevent everything you just described!

The good news is that there is NO WAY you'll get the flu again for at least a year anyways. Your body has just built up some KILLER antibodies regarding the flu so you could probably pass through a flu invested hallway and not get touched by the bug!

Love you and am glad you are on the mend and feeling better. Hope your Christmas stuff gets caught up, although even if you don't, there are only about 5 thousand more Christmases to come so you can always go all out next year :-)

    Love you!

  8. I'm sorry to hear how bad you had the flu. It's too late now to stress over what needs to be done! Hope that you rest and recover well. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

  9. Oh Jennifer I am soo sorry you have been soo sick. And it just is plain the pits that it happens to be at this time of the year as well. I scare myself because it takes soo long to pop back anymore whenever I am sick with anything. For what it's worth here is what I'd do...forget the baking, there are plenty of goodies that can be bought all ready. Do your cards cuz you can do that sitting. Just put out enough decs that it looks like Christmas somewhat but don't stress too much on it. Wrapping can be done a little at a time. BUT DON'T SHOP...Way too many other germs out there and your resistence to other things is weak now. Also, shopping is exhausting. If you can't buy it on line, don't buy it...let hubby do it if it can't be left undone. REST, REST, REST, and don't worry about the rest of it. You will be feeling WONDERFUL by Christmas I am sure. I have been praying for a month now that I won't be sick when Mel is here like I was last year...pretty much ruined that holiday. We ALL got it...tis the season I guess. Feel better soon my friend and I will say a prayer for you everyday (I promise) till I hear you are back up and feeling like yourself. Love you, Debbie
